Project - Vansda Project in 1994/95

A brief report summarizing the Inner Wheel Club of Bombay North’s (IWCBN) extensive work in the Vansda region of Gujarat done from the year 1994-2021.

Introduction:

The Wheel Club of Bombay North (IWCBN) initiated its Vansda project in 1994/95, demonstrating a sustained commitment to the region’s development for nearly two decades. Under the leadership of various presidents, the club implemented a comprehensive program addressing diverse community needs with the help of Dr. Vaidya who liasoned with us in all our projects.

Key Initiatives:

Environmental Sustainability:

 * Annual tree plantation drives, distributing thousands of mango saplings.
 * Sponsorship of gobar gas plants for bio gas(5-10 annually).
 * Construction of temporary check dams, leading to the Gujarat government’s establishment of permanent dams.
 * Taught vermiculture.

Sanitation and Infrastructure:
   * Construction of a minimum of 5 toilets annually, with a significant contribution of 50 toilets in the Golden Jubilee year (2013/14).

   * Construction of many wells.
   * Construction of Community centers.
   * Education and Cultural Development:
   * Support for Balwadis with tricycles, educational toys, and nutritional snacks.
   * Sponsorship of a playgroup at Vansda School.
   * Donation of encyclopedias and establishment of a school library.
   * Sponsorship of E-learning in multiple schools.
   * Donation of musical instruments for Bhajan Mandals.
   * Donation of sports equipment.
   * Donation of educational supplies such as notebooks, uniforms and stationery. 

Agriculture and Economic Empowerment:
   * Donation of cows for women empowerment.
   * Assistance in forming a rural women’s cooperative society.
   * Financial aid for cow purchases.
   * Appointment of an agriculture advisor.

Healthcare:

 * Sponsorship of cataract surgeries (70-100 annually).
 * Regular medical check-up and treatment camps.
 * Cancer detection camps (Pap smears).
 * Land donation for an eye hospital, along with a medical van/ambulance.

 * Fridge and Washing machine donated.

 * Ayurvedic centre opened.

Social Welfare:
 * Sponsorship of mass weddings (20 and 100 couples).
 * Donation of household utensils.
 * Sponsorship of newspaper subscriptions.

Impact and Recognition:
The IWCBN’s Vansda project achieved significant success, positively impacting various aspects of the community’s life. The project’s comprehensive approach and sustained commitment earned it widespread recognition, making “Bombay North & Vansda project” synonymous. The project was visited by every district chairman since its inception.
